Sup? Facebook much? Ye you do, everyone does... That's the problem my friend. You spend too much time on facebook.
When was the last time you started your web browser (Internet explorer, yes I know you knew what it means) and forgot about visiting the famous page? Do you even have it bookmarked? Check your recent history. Yup, you're an addict!
Now, the thing I'm aiming at is not simply internet addiction. Most of us have it, including myself thank you very much. It's the f***ing ego outburst on those sites that makes me sick. How much of those facebook "friends" you know in real life? If the answer is A LOT, then tell me how many of them are communicating with you on a daily basis (irl only, facebook chat is not communication)? Also, put your family on one side and other facebook users on the other. The number got pretty low am i not right?
The other thing is picture browsing. It's cool, you have tons of pictures and your friends have loads of pictures with you on them. Question is, how often do you check their pictures and how often do you come back to yours? Ego prestige at your service. You don't care about John and his crazyness, or Jenny with her cute smiles, all you care about is how awesome you look on your pictures. Same goes for group photos - Your eyes ALWAYS wander towards your side of the picture, no matter how small and insignificant it is. ALWAYS!
Facebook mini games? Ye, they are AWESOME! Farmville and Zunga poker are definition of coolness these days, you can't have friends if you don't have them as your neighbours! Ye, all fun and games. Ask someone if they play some FPS or RTS game (cba explaining, google it), or God forbid, if they have active World of Warcraft account! Get your response and read this afterwards: YUP, POINT PROVEN!
Summa Summarum:
Facebook ain't making you any cooler the you already are, it doesn't make you any more friends then you can actually meet in real life, however it does shape your social life a lot which needs to be changed ASAP!
So, delete your facebook bookmark and see you next time here, on "Complex Media".

Well I, myself, see fb as a cool way to stay in touch with RL friends, don't have more thab 100 of them "friended" or been into fb games that much.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is going to be the database of the world soon. The CIA will secretly be using it.
ReplyDeleteI don't even use facebook
ReplyDeleteWell written article, and so true...
ReplyDeleteGlad I don't use facebook.
ReplyDeleteVery good article - Unfortunately I'm someone that works on Facebook and have no way to avoid it. There are many ways it is now getting out of hand however.
ReplyDeleteHm yeah i use facebook, its cool to stay in contact with old friends (or family in other countries)

glad i don't use facebook that much
ReplyDeleteI hate facebook
ReplyDeleteFacebook drains the lifetime of every user. Before facebook my friends and I used to go to the gym or play football. Now they're posting useless statuses on fb ...
ReplyDeleteI personally don't understand how people can spend mass quantities of time on Facebook. I go on it, check to see if I have any messages, and log off. To me, it's a nice way to keep in touch with people, and that's really about it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, anyone who lists all of their personal information on Facebook is a fool. Do people really need to know where and when you were born?
I like facebook on occasion, chat is pretty much all i use.
ReplyDeleteGood article
ReplyDeleteHate facebook but I'm ashamed to admit that I use it :(

i got bored with it after a week to be honest
ReplyDeleteFacebook saps away users' livelyhood.
ReplyDeleteI feel great after closing my fb account seriously.
ReplyDeleteCheck my facebook twice a month, not bookmarked, hate all those minigames, and I use firefox xD
